About us
The Laboratory of Social Dimensions of Global Environmental Change in the Southern Hemisphere (LABGEC) was founded in 2015 by Dr Leila da Costa Ferreira, a professor of sociology and environmental sociology at the Institute of Philosophy and Human Sciences (IFCH) of the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP). It brings together professionals and students from different fields who work with an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach to research, consultancy and innovation, both nationally and internationally, with a focus on environmental and climate issues.
Our purpose
The Laboratory of Social Dimensions of Global Environmental Change in the Southern Hemisphere (LABGEC) aims to bring together researchers, students, and collaborators from different fields of knowledge to share experiences and develop joint projects, prioritising the climate emergency and global ecological collapse in its multiple human, social, cultural, political, and ecological dimensions. The work is carried out in an interdisciplinary and transversal approach, through empirical experiences and differentiated methodologies, acting on different scales, actors and territories. Crossing different countries, territories, socio-spatial organisations and cultures, the Global South is explored as the main axis, although territories and populations from the Global North may also be introduced as a counterpoint.
